It was a Sherlock double at tonight's Royal Television Society Programme Awards as the show triumphed in the best drama series and best drama writer categories, voted for by members of the industry.

The popular detective series - starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman - beat off competition in the best drama category from fellow BBC productions Call The Midwife and Line of Duty.

Accepting the award from host Jo Brand was executive producer Sue Vertue alongside series co-creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.

Speaking on behalf of the show, Vertue said, "I'll take this as a chance to thank the brains behind Sherlock, Steven and Mark. We just love making the series."
