Danny Boyle has said that he treated Ewan McGregor badly over the casting of his film 'The Beach'.

The director, who had cast McGregor in his films 'Shallow Grave', 'Trainspotting' and 'A Life Less Ordinary' snubbed McGregor in favour of Leonardo DiCaprio for the adaptation of Alex Garland's gap-year essential.

“We didn't treat him very well, I've got to be honest about it, we didn't behave at our best,” he told Jonathan Ross.



“You learn and we've apologized  We made this film called The Beach, and we gave Ewan the impression we were going to cast him in it and we didn't cast him in it, we cast another actor, a wonderful actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who was a lovely guy, they're both wonderful.

“You think you're moving up, it's the illusion that you think you're moving up, therefore you're going to need a bigger star to sell the movie. You learn to stick with your roots.”

Boyle also added to the excitement around the possibility of a sequel to 'Trainspotting', based on Irvine Welsh's book 'Porno'.

As it happened, I ended up caring deeply for him, both as the brave, indomitable Tracie, and as the heartbreakingly lonely Simon, in the first of Jimmy McGovern's four-part drama examining the British justice system.

Simon was a man we could all relate to - undervalued at work in his classroom, consoled by literature at home, this was a tragic, timeless everyman, except this being Jimmy McGovern and 2012, his only solace was transforming himself into Tracie and hitting in the town in a frock.

Although Tracie's breasts were a little cartoonly pneumatic, Bean has revealed in recent interviews that he also realised in them great statements of power, and this became clear as he fought off derisive comments and stares from all around. He may have been lonely and fearful, but he was no victim.

James McAvoy Admits He's Had A 'Mental and Physical Breakdown' (E.)

The Atonement star is pushing himself to the limit with three new films and a sold out theatre show.

James McAvoy seems unstoppable at the moment! After becoming a Hollywood star with films like The Last King of Scotland and X-Men: First Class, the 33-year-old actor has just finished a flurry of new films and performs every night to packed audiences in London.

The Scottish actor's fame looks set to sore further after the release of some of the most highly anticipated films this year.

McAvoy is starring in British crime thriller Welcome to the Punch alongside W.E actress Andrea Riseborough, Danny Boyle's Trance and a film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's controversial novel Filth.

He has also just completed a two-part film with Oscar nominated redhead Jessica Chastain called The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.
